Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: My formal education is in Engineering. While doula work is a large departure from that, the thought process learned through engineering provides a great basis for doula work. It promotes a logical way of looking at problems and looking for solutions. It also gave me the opportunity to work with a large variety of personality styles, which helped me learn how to best convey information to promote learning and understanding. In my role as a wife and mother, I have learned a great deal about patience and flexibility. Sometimes approaching a challenging day without a solution in mind can open doors to new opportunities. I have found that all of these experiences and realizations help to form how I approach my work as a doula.

What led you to become a Doula?: In 2012, I was asked to assist a very dear friend as she and her husband welcomed their first child. Through helping them prepare, guiding, and encouraging them along their journey, I realized that becoming a doula was in my future. I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to accompany them and witness the transformation as their family of two became a family of three.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

My best friends will tell you that I am someone who is true to my word, loyal and in whom they can trust. They know that whatever is said to me in confidence will stay there. I have also been told that I have a very soothing presence and am a wealth of knowledge and encouragement.
