Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: As a mother of twins who were born at 35 weeks, I have experience with caring for very tiny babies. For the past 5 years I have volunteered with the Seattle Families of Multiples and have worked with many families with newborn twins. I have also facilitated newborn parent support groups for PEPS. Both of these volunteer positions have allowed me to build a large network of connections and resources within the greater Seattle area.
What led you to become a Doula?: After my twins were born I felt very isolated and overwhelmed and it wasn't until I joined a new mom support group (PEPS) and received support from a postpartum doula that I started to feel more confident in my new role as a parent. Having experienced first hand how a little support, connection and community helped me thrive, I wanted other new parents to have this experience too, so I started facilitating newborn parent support groups. With each group I lead, my wish to work with families on a one-on-one basis became stronger and stronger until I finally listened to my heart and realized I was meant to be a postpartum doula.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
