Meet Your ProDoula
Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am the biological mom to 13 breastfed and home/hospital birthed children, one of whom spent 6 weeks in the NICU as a newborn. As a result of this NICU stay I have personal experienced the stressors involved in having a medically challenged newborn. In addition, I was taught some tricks of the trade that allowed me to keep up my milk supply til baby could nurse.
What led you to become a Doula?: My husband and I were houseparents at a home for young unwed mothers way back in 1992. It was during that time that I was able to attend my first births as a support person to these young ladies. I ABSOLUTELY fell in love with the work. Shortly thereafter, I began having my own home and hospital births, and serving friends and family members who found themselves doing the same. I guess this is how I first got my feet wet and I have loved every minute of birth work.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Some folks have said I am understanding, insightful, personable, real, intuitive, and the like. I have also been told that I am a good listener.
