Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a mother of 3 and a grandmother of 6. I have worked with infants and children of all ages for over 35 years as a CNA, but for the last 10 years my focus has been working with newborns and babies up to the age of one, as a full time nanny. My love for children and showing them guidance is one of my greatest gifts. After the first 5 years of being a nanny, I noticed myself having the same conversation with parents, “They wish they had me around to support them during their pregnancy and birth!”. Why? For the simple fact that most of them were not able to have their moms with them during this process. I found myself taking on that motherly role which came so naturally for me. Not everyone has that support system they would love to have especially during a pregnancy which is never easy. Having years of experience as a CNA and having children of my own has taught me to be more outgoing but also taught me how to be patient. I’ve learned to provide wisdom, comfort and to just be present without words. I love what I do and I love being able to help and care for others!

What led you to become a Doula?: Deep down I believe it all started for me at the age of seventeen when I was asked by my oldest sister to be by her side in the delivery room for the birth of her second baby. From there I went on to assist many other friends and family members through the birth and postpartum process but never really thought about being professionally trained as a birth worker until after I stated working for first time parents as a full time nanny.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

NCS Client-
Erica had a gentle, calming demeanor about her which was comforting (especially in the middle of the night when she had to wake me to nurse.) She was also very gentle and warm to our baby. I trusted her and I would absolutely recommend her to any mom looking for night or day care.

Nanny family-
Erica put me completely at ease- from day one I never worried that my my son wasn’t being taken care of and loved on. Erica is amazing with newborns- she has a ton of experience and was so helpful to me in offering tips and advice and ideas when my son was going through in a difficult stage- whether it was reflux, teething, sleep issues etc.… She really helped my son (and his parents!) navigate through the difficult points in a baby’s first year. I found myself consulting her on issues versus pulling up the Internet or reading a parenting book -she always knew just what to do to help our little guy.
Erica quickly became part of our family. She’s trustworthy hard-working, loving and anyone would be lucky to work with her.

Labor Doula Client-
Erica is very intuitive and detailed oriented. She knew when I need words of encouragement and when I just wanted the room quiet. She kept me well hydrated and consistently kept a cool cloth on me to help keep me comfortable. She provided that motherly care that I needed during my pregnancy and delivery process. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting that extra care that only a mother knows how to give!
