Meet Your ProDoula
Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a badass birth doula who will help you achieve the kick-ass, badass birth of your dreams! I believe birth should be a simple and beautiful process that every birthing person actually looks forward to! My husband is an acupuncturist and we run a wellness clinic in Arlington Heights (Family Tree Holistic Health). Together we have two "homemade" children (one hospital birth with an epi, one home waterbirth). We also were foster parents for eight years and fostered 20 children and adopted four. If you've lost count: that's six kids in our "forever" family now. (Plus several former foster kiddos who still come around quite often.)
What led you to become a Doula?: Ready for a great story?! When I was twenty years old I was sharing an apartment with several girls I didn't know. One of the young women was a recent immigrant who didn't speak much English. I began to suspect she might be pregnant, so I finally worked up the courage to ask her if she was expecting (always a sensitive subject). Her answer was, "Yes, and I'm due this Saturday." What a shock! I ended up being her birth partner and unofficial doula for her thirty-hour labor. Afterward, I went home bleary-eyed in the wee morning hours and before I went to bed I got on my computer to search if there was any such thing as a professional labor coach. That search led me to the word "doula," and I knew immediately that it was my calling!

“Thank you for holding me!” (Shared by a grateful client after I held her up for several hours, as standing in my arms was her preferred position during labor.)
