Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Michigan and taught in Rochester Community Schools for 3 years until we moved abroad to Regensburg, Germany for nearly 5 years. I am a mother of two. It was in Regensburg that we had our daughter and were introduced to the Midwifery model of care. Upon our return to Michigan and becoming pregnant with our son, we sought out doula support and loved it. My first official training was with toLabor (2013). I attended other trainings as well and finally landed at ProDoula with their Labor & Postpartum training (2015), Postpartum Placenta Specialist training (2016), Infant Care training (2017), Infant Feeding Specialist training (2018). I’m actively working toward completing the final two of all five certifications, including Childbirth Educator through ProDoula. I’ve had a wide range of experiences since my first training with a well-rounded collection of environments, circumstances, and families. I’m calm, caring, joyful, reliable, and have a heart for helping others.

What led you to become a Doula?: Our exposure to different styles of maternity care, our own birth/doula experiences, and a desire to hire postpartum care for faraway friends. While living in abroad, I had many friends who were having their own babies and I wished I had the ability to hire someone to help them. Little did I know this type of service actually exists! Our doula was amazing and gave us unconditional support & had complete faith in my birthing ability. It felt empowering to know all of our options and be completely supported in our desires; I wouldn’t give birth now without one. I was moved to help others in this same capacity realizing my personal experiences, gifts, and path lead heavily to serving others in birth and postpartum as their families grow .

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

“She knew exactly how to soothe me, calm me, touch me etc. to help get me through each contraction. I don’t know what I would have done if she hadn’t been there helping my husband. “(Amy) exceeded our expectations. Whenever I had a question I texted/called Amy and
she was there for me. She made my prenatal journey more pleasant than it would have been without her. I had low amniotic fluid and needed to be induced that day. I was a wreck. She re-­focused me and reminded me I can still implement my birth plan. She took tons of pictures with my phone which I loved. My husband raved about Amy’s service and how ‘she was worth every penny.’”
