Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: First and foremost, I am a mother so that in itself should fall under some kind of experience. I breastfed and cloth diapered both of my children which, I know cloth diapering was once a lost art, but is becoming more popular. It’s really good to have that knowledge for families that would like to try cloth diapering. I am an active listener and am ready to give advice if/when it is asked for.

What led you to become a Doula?: Being a mom has been so rewarding yet so challenging. As a single mother, I struggled with daily chores along with working as a full time mother. I wish I had known that a postpartum doula was a thing when I had my children. My sanity and mental health would have thanked me. Secondly, the birth of my first child was a bit traumatic and I felt like I had to listen to a medical professional over myself. I had nobody to advocate for me and I struggled with speaking up to a very “pushy” doctor. I became a doula so that I can support and advocate for those who may not feel comfortable doing so. I am exactly the person I needed when I was a new mother.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

I am known to be very reliable. I’m empathetic and can feel what others may be feeling during that time. I’m not sure if this is considered positive but I am an extrovert and will always reach out to others before they reach out to me. Last but not least, I’m a giver. I put my heart and soul into a person regardless of the outcome. I love helping in any ways I can and am very hospitable.
