Meet Your Doula Trainer

Jodi Graves; CCN, Elite Certified Postpartum & Infant Care Doula, Labor Doula, Infant Feeding Educator & Agency Owner.

I hold a nursing degree (LPN) a bachelor’s in psychology and two master’s degrees in clinical nutrition and functional medicine and am working toward my doctorate in Clinical Nutrition, as well. (Soon to be Dr. Jodi Graves!)

Provide current information: I am the CEO of Michigan Family Doulas and have been a doula since 1999–since before anyone knew what a doula was! As a doula, nutritionist, and functional medicine practitioner, I am acutely aware of how poor the United States’ birth & postpartum outcomes are and am passionate about educating birthing people on the importance of good nutrition before pregnancy, during pregnancy and throughout the postpartum year.  I have made it my mission to help women & birthing people win this war against bodily autonomy we’re currently fighting and work to push legislative change for birth & postpartum rights for all!  Between my agency, classes, speaking engagements and my podcast (Tea with Jodi) I reach thousands of women and their families each year and have only just begun! When I am not training new doulas you can find me at the gym weightlifting, hanging out with the love of my life (Ken), having coffee with one of my grown daughters or chilling at home making recipes from one of my favorite cookbooks with my Corgi close at my heels.

Goals as a trainer: My goal as a trainer is to train as many doulas as possible not to be ‘list’ doulas but to learn how to really connect with folks and be a listening ear on their early parenting journey. To establish themselves as the trustworthy, non-biased expert and help newly birthing folks rest & recover, build confidence as their newborn grows and to feel empowered in the early weeks and months post birth.  I want birthing people to know that they don’t have to walk this path alone, and training new doulas across the globe is how we ensure that new parents thrive!
