Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I began my career in the early childhood field when I was sixteen years old. Throughout the years, my goal was always serving families. As I worked with families with newborns, I never saw anyone supporting or caring for the mother. At the time, I knew my place was to take care of the child but in the back of my head I wanted to care for the mother, just as I was doing for the child. My experience with children and the quality training that I have invested into becoming a doula will provide great benefits to this work.

What led you to become a Doula?: I was supporting my sister during her pregnancies before I even knew that there was a such thing called a “doula”. While going through infertility, I became more and more curious about the maternity and childbirth world. As an African American, we lack support, knowledge, and proper treatment in the medical field. During my research, I found out about the Black Maternal Mortality rates with African American pregnant women and I said to myself, “ This is my calling-doulas are essential, doulas can make a difference.” As a doula, my goal is not to be an advocate for you but to encourage you to be empowering, confident, and an advocate for yourself in YOUR birthing space.
