Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Though the first nine years of my post-graduate career was in the Accounting & Finance function of corporate America, I have spent my whole life around babies and children. As my family and friends, and eventually myself, started bringing our own babies into the world, my eyes were opened to so much of what pregnancy and postpartum can entail, bringing new parents close to my heart. The difference of providing judgement-free support during pregnancy and postpartum is so crucial in today's world, and I'm so lucky to have found this passion and turn it into a career.
What led you to become a Doula?: I had both of my children while living halfway across the country from my entire family and support system. In addition, my experiences with pregnancy and postpartum included the challenge of perinatal and postpartum anxiety and/or depression. The pandemic complicated what my most recent postpartum support looked like even more and I just knew that I wanted to be able to be a safe source of help and relief for as many other families as I could.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
A friend’s husband once described me as “the type of person who would mail you an entire turkey on Thanksgiving just because she was thinking of you.” I’m honored to be known for my thoughtfulness, ability to listen, and for giving a great hug.
