Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a Military Veteran with experience in team management, administrative and ability to work under pressure. Being in the military, I was able to see multiple cultures and people from different backgrounds. Having these experiences has allowed me to develop effective communication skills and an unbiased, open mindset. I believe that the life I’ve led will enable me to become a more effective doula as I gain experience.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have a passion for helping birthing people and their babies at a time that is most vulnerable for them. My interest in birth came when I was pregnant with my son. I have a rough pregnancy due to working a full-time job and my husband being deployed for 8 months of my pregnancy. Once my son was born, I fell in love with babies, breastfeeding, and everything postpartum.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
When I told people I was going to train to become a doula I was met with such positive encouragement. The majority of my friends and family told me a doula would be the perfect career choice for me. I have always had a passion for helping women so it comes to no one’s surprise that I became a doula. I was told by multiple people that I would be the perfect fit for the role of a doula.
