Meet Your ProDoula
Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have a bachelors degree in Elementary and Special Education. I also have over 15 years of experience working with young children, as a babysitter, nanny and photographer, as well as in public school and preschool/daycare settings.
What led you to become a Doula?: For as long as I can remember I have been lead to nurture and love people, but I have especially been drawn to working with children in some way or another. Starting in high school, I studied child development and volunteered at a local preschool. I've done work in public schools, as a nanny, and as a church nursery attendant throughout college. After graduation I worked as a preschool photographer and childcare teacher. After having my first child, I started my own business so that I could combine my love of photography and working with children. "Penven-Crew Photography, LLC" was created with the intention of being a family photographer that specializes in children, but the more maternity and newborn sessions I provide, the more I want to love and support pre & postnatal families. I struggle with anxiety and depression myself, which was worsened by my pregnancies. I felt alone and overwhelmed, even with my years of "experience", and wanted to do something that would help other moms. After having my second child, I decided to take the leap and get trained as a Postpartum Doula so that I could be a resource for moms like me and support them in their transition into motherhood.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Jessica is wonderful to work with and cares deeply for others. She is loving, kind, and upbeat. You can really tell she loves what she does.

It’s impressive how patient and thoughtful Jessica is when dealing with a baby that always wants to be held and isn’t shy about speaking her mind. We are thankful for many good nights of sleep, because of Jessica!
Jessica is an incredible, warm hearted, comforting, and joyful person to be around. She really put us at ease. We were shocked and amazed that our son instantly fell asleep in her arms after we handed him to her for the first time.
