HEY DOULA, ARE YOU EXPERIENCING A LULL?
… and no, we’re not talking about a lullaby! A lull is defined as a temporary lack of activity or a non-permanent drop in business activity.
lull noun
1 : a temporary interval of quiet or lack of activity.
2 : a non-permanent drop in business activity.
Although this word may bring about a negative association, some lulls are intentional.
As doulas and business owners, we have the freedom to create intentional lulls in our schedules as long as we have the right systems in place ✈️🌴
Planning for vacations, family events, or personal time can help prevent doula burnout.
Even labor doulas with “unpredictable schedules” can plan ahead by choosing not to take clients during a specific period or by relying on their backup doula. Postpartum doulas can also block off their schedules to create an intentional lull.
We must take the same advice we give our clients when we tell them to prioritize themselves and their needs.
But it’s the unintentional lulls that have the power to make us feel stuck 👎
These unintentional lulls are dangerous. They can create a narrative in your mind that leads to self-doubt and self-depreciation.
If you are a doula experiencing an unintentional lull in your business, we encourage you to reach out to us! At ProDoula, we are here to support our members through the highs and the lows, just as ProDoula members do for their clients.
We have been in where you are and can provide you with support and resources as you navigate your doula business journey.
