Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a Certified birth doula and a Pre-Certified Postpartum & Infant Care Doula. I have completed First Aid/CPR, Dancing for Birth™ Instructor training, Pregnancy and Infant Loss training, and advanced doula training workshops with Melissa Cowl, Penny Simkin and Spinning Babies. I have been assisting families since 2011 and look forward to doing so for many more years to come.
What led you to become a Doula?: My own birth stories were profoundly impacted by my support team. After realizing how important the roles of support people are in bringing positivity, encouragement and confidence into the room, I jumped at a chance to attend a friend’s birth when asked. From that first birth, there was no looking back. From birth work, I found my way to postpartum support and to the magic of witnessing people transform into parents.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Hiring Sarah is the best thing we did to prepare for our daughter’s birth! As first time parents, Sarah instantly put my husband and I at ease, answered our questions, and gave us the confidence we needed to have a natural birth. Sarah is a wealth of information, incredibly compassionate, non-judgmental, and trustworthy. Sarah played a very important role during my labour & delivery and helped me have a beautiful, empowering birth!” ~ Birth Client
“Knowing of Sarah’s expertise, dedication and reputation as a wonderful doula, we asked her to attend the home birth of our baby. We were so happy to have her caring assistance through the whole journey. When we had questions, Sarah directed us to quality information sources. When we had fears, she helped us explore our feelings and options to find peace. And when we talked of our birth visions, she helped us consider elements that would contribute to our ideas and also to consider how we could still have a fulfilling birth experience if things didn’t go quite as we hoped. During labour, Sarah’s presence was a gift. John felt a calming encouragement from being able to pick up gentle cues from her of how he could support me. The best part was that she smiled the kindest smile you could imagine. Each time I saw that smile I knew I was doing well, everything was going well, and something joyful was in progress.”

“Sarah was excellent and we are grateful for the care she provided to us. She was very warm and positive and exuded a quiet confidence – all of which I soaked up when she visited. I looked forward to her coming and felt better when she was around. I thought she was perceptive and tried to anticipate our needs – even when not fully verbalized – which was helpful in that we didn’t have to provide a lot of coaching/feedback to have our needs met. She was non-judgmental and followed our lead on how to care for our baby, which I think is important in those early days when you are trying to find yourself as a parent. I felt like she really cared about our son and us and that means a lot.”
