Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been working as a birth professional for the past 11 years. I have been advocating for maternal health and wellness for more than 17 years. I have a passion for both women's' and childbirth health. In addition to my experience as a doula and childbirth educator, I am at my intern level for my master's degree in Clinal Counseling. My desire is to both support perinatal mood disorders but also teach and educate professionals on preventing birth trauma and being aware of perinatal mood disorders and best practices for treatment.
What led you to become a Doula?: I have been interested in birth work since I first saw a placenta in 5th grade at a career day. I started down the medical school route until I changed routes and completed my bachelor's degree in Psychology. After becoming pregnant and having my first child I became very aware of the need for more birth professionals and the rights of birthing people.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
Both my clients and Nurses and doctors alike say I am very knowledgeable, offer evidence-based information, and support clients’ rights to choose and then support those choices. Just the other day a nurse I worked with while supporting a client for about 12 hours at the hospital with a wonderful unmedicated vaginal birth said that she wished every person that gave birth at her hospital had support like me.
