Meet Your ProDoula
Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I work with a Pregnancy Service agency providing doula and education services to at-risk women to help decrease infant and maternal mortality in a neighboring county. I worked as a breastfeeding peer counselor for WIC for two years. I currently am a Certified Lactation Counselor. I have four children of my own. I've had two preemies, two cesareans, one VBAC, and one vaginal delivery. I also trained with DONA International as a birth and postpartum doula. I am CPR certified and ServeSafe Certified for food preparation.
What led you to become a Doula?: I am fascinated with birth and breastfeeding. I loved hearing women's birth stories and loved my own personal experience with breastfeeding. I am a single mother and had very limited support during pregnancy and postpartum, and I had two very traumatic cesarean deliveries. Through WIC I learned how much birth impacted breastfeeding and it increased my interest in birth and how it could help with increasing breastfeeding rates. I almost had a doula for my first birth and in later pregnancies, my interest in them increased. I also love the birth work community.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
People have always told me I’m very passionate and driven. I’ve been frequently told I’m kind and down to earth.
