Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I spent 7 years in the corporate technology world looking at data and translating it into readable and informative stories for my team to describe what's happening and why. This experience in communication, analysis, and development directly equips me to assess my clients' birth situation, synthesize what's going on, and relay information and support to them during their birth experience. Outside of work, I've been a counselor throughout my life, whether to children at camp, peers as a small group leader, or informally with other friends in their birth experiences. I have been soaking up birth stories, taken certified courses to become a birth professional, and have been on the other side with the birth of our first daughter, who came prematurely.

What led you to become a Doula?: Although I considered majoring in pre-med, nursing, and teaching in college, I ended up studying economics and studio art. Many indicators were there of interest in a direct "helping" career, but the creation aspect of art and the logic of economics excited me at the time. It was through my own pregnancy and labor that I learned how amazing birthing is, and now in retrospect understand it combines the creative and mysterious elements of art with the science of economics. Aside from the subject matter of birth being interesting, personal experience motivates me to be a birth professional. Giving birth to our daughter is my proudest life accomplishment. My experience would not have been as positive without my husband and our doula in the room. I want to provide steadfast support to empower women before, during, and after their labor in order to have a joyful birth experience.
