Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: A week after my brother's funeral I gave birth to my first child. Although she was a healthy baby I was depressed. I remember the doctor saying the word "postpartum depression". This was the first time I heard the term and was not sure what it meant. The doctor failed to inform me or give me guidance through the process. I just assumed I was depressed and never knew the depth of what I was experiencing which was postpartum depression.The unfortunate mishaps of my adolescence had a direct effect on the health of my pregnancies and labor. With the help of doulas or nannies that would have been significantly reduced. Doulas are trained to help mothers who were like me. I want to ensure that mothers are properly educated on breastfeeding, childbirth recovery, infant soothing, and coping skills for new parents. These services could have made a significant difference in my life and I want to give all parents the opportunity to have a healthy experience with their child.

Doulas are trained to help mothers who were like me, so I want to help other mothers who are having a difficult time and need help with depression and the entire process of pregnancy, birth and care of their newborn.
