Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a certified Birth, and Postpartum & Infant Care Doula, as well as a Childbirth Educator and Postpartum Placenta Specialist. I also have Lactation training and am certified in CPR. I am a mother to 4 grown daughters and have had 2 un-medicated, vaginal births. Although I know what it is like to give birth that way I have supported all types of births, from un-medicated, medicated, cesarean (planned and un-planned), VBAC, twins, and everything in-between. I offer unbiased, nonjudgemental support to birthing mothers and their families. Birth, whether the 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc, transforms the mother as a person and her family as a whole. It is my honor and passion to help them get off to the best start possible by giving them encouragement, compassion, care, and evidence-based information. My mission is to Mother All Mothers!
What led you to become a Doula?: Way back in 2001, my best friend was 18 hours in on the labor for her first baby. She and her husband were exhausted and discouraged and asked me to come to support them. I encouraged her through the remainder of her labor and birth and had the honor of cutting my “nephew’s’ cord. It was a transformative experience for me and I truly felt like I was in my element, as though it was my calling. I called to check in on them the next day and my friend told me that, when I left, her doctor asked if I was her doula. When she replied no, her doctor said “well she should be”. I didn’t know what a doula was at the time but when I looked into it I had to agree!! It wasn’t until years later that I finally had the freedom to pursue what had become my dream, but I believe that those of us who truly are doulas, have been our entire lives. It’s in our hearts. I feel blessed to be doing what I love - Mothering Mothers!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Christina is amazing! She was with me and my husband during the birth of our first child. Her supportive, calm, and loving presence eased my husband’s fears and allowed me to bring our baby girl into the world. I am so thankful for the role she played in our birth story and can’t imagine what it would have been like without her. Thank you, Christina!!!!”
“Christina offered both myself and my spouse so much compassion and support and prepared us in ways we didn’t know we needed. She feels like part of our family now and I would highly encourage anyone considering hiring a doula to do it! It’s completely worth it and will help you stay present and grounded for birth and/or parenting! That outside, level voice and perspective from Christina allowed us to enjoy every minute of our birth story!”
“Christina was with me on the day of my birth and she was everything I needed and more during the labor and delivery of my first baby! Her calming energy, wisdom, and experience with the labor process was truly amazing. I 100% believe my ability to have an unmedicated birth was largely because I had Christina on my team and would highly recommend investing in her doula services, especially for first time moms.”
“Christina was an absolute godsend! She helped coach me through my contractions with incredibly helpful suggestions on breathing and positioning and reminding me each contraction was one I didn’t have to see again and one closer to meeting my baby girl. She was also a calming and confident presence for my husband. Having her there to support was so critical for the success of my labor and delivery. After experiencing labor and delivery, I think every mama needs a doula.”
“Christina is incredible! So thankful for her support during labor/delivery and postpartum. Her presence made a world of difference for my family and myself! Couldn’t imagine going the journey of motherhood without her.”
