Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have been a birth doula since 2017, but I have studied birth long before that. I have trained and certified with two organizations, and I have been supporting families full time. I have learned a lot along the way, and I still have a great deal more to learn. There is a lot that we know about birth, but there is still an element of mystery. I believe I bring a balanced approach to my clients a lot of evidence based information and a little bit of woo. I have learned that there is no right or wrong way to birth, and that it is unique to each individual every time. I truly enjoy learning and continuing my education, so I can stay up to date, and offer my clients the best resources. As important as the pregnancy and birth are, there is so much to come after that is often overlooked. I believe the postpartum and infant care should have as much preparation. I have spent many hours learning about and supporting people through the postpartum. I teach two classes specifically designed to help families mindfully prepare for this special time. I offer newborn education and postpartum planning classes.

What led you to become a Doula?: I became interested in helping families because I believe that we can do birth better, and it can be safer and more positive than we have learned growing up. I was on the journey to become a midwife when my friend became unexpectedly pregnant, and she was terrified. She hadn't prepared, and she wasn't sure she was ready to have a baby. She asked me to join her as her "doula", but I didn't truly know what that entailed. I attended her birth and so did the rest of her family. As the baby started crowing everyone migrated from the head of the bed to the foot to see the baby, and in that moment my friend gave me this look. This look of fear, uncertainty, and desperation. I knew right then that there was enough people catching babies, and I wanted to be there for the birthing person. I immediately threw everything I had into becoming a birth doula.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

My clients have said that I am knowledgeable, professional, and intuitive. People have said they have felt completely guided, educated and supported.
