Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Jacqui is a birth and postpartum doula, videographer, photographer and a mother of three. She believes that doula support and informed choice can make a vast difference in how a person crosses the threshold into parenthood. She is dedicated to helping clients feel supported, prepared and empowered as they become parents. Jacqui was raised in a big family and has held and cared for babies her whole life. She brings grounded warmth to her clients, providing guidance, evidence-based information and physical support. Her ultimate goal is to guide and hold supportive space for her clients, so they can tap into their own parental instincts, growing a little more confident each day. Jacqui's approach is also informed by her personal experiences through her own three (very different) labor experiences, which earned her a broad respect for the unpredictable nature of birth, the empowering possibilities of birth and the vital need of in-person support during the postpartum period. She has experienced loss, labored three times with doula support (both in-person and remote), navigated varying complications and interventions in both hospitals and birth centers. She is endlessly fascinated by the processes of birth and raising humans. She believes wholeheartedly in the transformative power of both. Jacqui also loves her kids' wild and hilarious imaginations, playing and coaching hockey, lifting weights, raising backyard chickens and being outdoors with her family.
What led you to become a Doula?: My doula experience dates back to 2016, when I completed a Birth Arts International doula training, a year after I became a mom. My doula journey began sheerly as a passion project, as I felt called to the work after I began studying pregnancy and birth, and hired a doula for my first labor. I knew in my gut it was a field I had to try to pursue.
