Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have many years in customer service which has exposed my caring heart. I have also been a nanny, done unofficial postpartum work for friends and family, and am a sexual wellness advocate formerly with a direct sales company. While I have left that business, the values I gained have helped me greatly. Sexual health and wellness are dear to my heart and I feel that is deeply attached to out birth community.

What led you to become a Doula?: The passion I found for birth work is multi-faceted. I have always loved babies and wanted to help from a young age. I think that came in handy with five siblings after me! I would do small tasks to entertain the baby or babies while mom did some chore or another. I was a postpartum doula at the age of 7! But in all seriousness, I saw a great need as my siblings and friends started having children of their own around me. They didn't have a need for me, per se, but they did have a need for better. Better care before during and after giving birth. I have watched some struggle with the big emotions of becoming a parent and processing all of the hormones. Some with greater ease than others, if I'm honest. The health care system they all gave birth in left them without much guidance and many scars, both physical and mental. I always imagined I'd be a mother and that may not happen. Maybe a part of me is clinging to the birth community for that reason, but I truly feel that in my bones that I'm doing this to give birthing persons the best possible support they can get.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

I’ve been told that I have a very caring heart. My empathy and nurturing spirit have attracted many to me. Those around me say that I am steady, once I commit to something there is nothing that can get in my way. It may take me time, but I always finish what I set my mind to.
