Meet Your ProDoula
Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Kimyatta is a certified labor doula as well as a postpartum and infant care doula with a solid background in mental health and behavioral health. Kimyatta has had a passion to help children and families since she was a teenager. She started off babysitting for families and later grew to being the “go to” babysitter in her community. Her passion drove her to obtaining her Bachelor’s in Psychology and her Master’s in Social Work. Her education and work experience provided the foundation needed to support individuals and families in multiple areas. As a mother of a two year old daughter. Kimyatta has first-hand experience with not feeling heard by medical providers, challenges with breastfeeding, the guilt that may come due to deterring from breastfeeding to bottle feeding, and postpartum depression. She draws on her doula training, as well as her personal experiences to support parents with empathy, non-biased, and judgement free support. When she’s not busy supporting individuals and families, Kimyatta can be found spending time with her daughter and husband, reading, dancing, and anything adventurous.
What led you to become a Doula?: Kimyatta’s own experience and struggles during postpartum, as well as watching her family. The lack of understanding and support toward women of color and minorities, stigma around mental health, NICU/Preemie families was the main driving force for Kimyatta. Kimyatta is determined to make a difference by providing physical and emotional support as well as education to individuals and families. She believes that having the right support and resources creates a safe and calm atmosphere to support individuals and families with making the best decisions for themselves and their families.
