Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I passionately worked as a high school English teacher in a major city. Quite a few of the young women I taught became pregnant and I was often the only non-judgmental support person in their life. My compassion for them through what, for many, was an extremely difficult time, helped them feel confident to go on and become absolutely great mothers.
What led you to become a Doula?: When leaving my teaching job, I desperately wanted to continue educating in some way. Through research and a yearning for something “more”, my focus shifted towards childbirth and something within me resonated so clearly with doula work. As I read more and more, I knew instantly that educating & supporting women and their families in this transformative time was the right place for me.
