Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I am a Licensed Practical Nurse with 15 years of experience, 7 of those in an OBGYN office. I learned a great deal during those years about the challenges a pregnant woman can face, which has helped me better understand and support women in their pregnancy journey. I am also a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and enjoying helping women and their partners learn about the labor and birth process.
What led you to become a Doula?: Twenty years ago I helped a home-birth midwife with 10 home deliveries and my interest was caught. Over the next decade I had other responsibilities with my time and was unable to pursue further training for nursing or midwifery education. Just over 8 years ago, a friend of mine asked me to be with her during her birth. I agreed and during the process was reminded of my interest in helping women in this manner. So I started pursing education and certification to become a doula. I’ve never looked back!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I am often told I am a calming presence and give unwavering support. I have also been told I am a steady hand when things start to go crazy.
