Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: In 2003, I became a Medical Assistant and worked at different hospitals and medical clinics in my hometown of Los Angeles, California. In 2013, I became a surrogate parent for a wonderful family, allowing me a front-row seat to their journey of becoming first-time parents. I have completed training with the National Black Doula Association as a Birth Doula, Labor Doula, and Postpartum & Infant Care training with ProDoula. I am on the path of completing more training as a Postpartum Placenta Encapsulation and Infant Feeding Specialist.
What led you to become a Doula?: At an early age, I had the opportunity to babysit for multiple families in my local community; I even helped a family friend through three births as a young teen. Over the years, I have wanted to help birth parents and families be rewarded with the opportunity to start their own families or expand. Being a support person to a new or seasoned parent allows me to coach them in areas they are not familiar with or need refreshers on.
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
I have heard a lot of positive comments and reinforcement from others regarding my personality and work ethic. The common comments that I hear from people are “I am dedicated to those I work with and serve”, and “I go above and beyond my role to ensure that those I work with have resources, tools, and the knowledge they need to succeed”, “I am an active listener and never use my own bias in situations”, “I wear my heart on my sleeve”, “I am honest to a fault, and stand up for those in need.”
