Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: My personal bio includes: Paula K Brummel Paula has worked in the caregiving environment with women, children and families all her life!. Beginning with being a “summer girl” and babysitter at a very young age and mentoring children in a crisis nursery while still in high school; she made ‘love and care’ her life’s calling early in her career. Graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Social Work, Youth Studies and Family Social Science and a minor in Child Psychology; she has over 35 years of professional experience. From a weekend counselor in a group home in college, to a School Counselor for children with disabilities in Minneapolis, to a Life Enrichment Specialist for elders with Dementia in Green Bay, to working with Elementary students as a school counselor in Green Bay parochial schools….her life long desire to support, nurture, educate and empower runs very deep. Paula took time off to parent her own children, fully immersing herself in that wonderful craziness. As a proud mother of four children ages 27 to 15, she has changed a diaper or two! In this span of time, she has seen the parenting world change and grow in it’s complexities. All of this experience, makes her very well prepared for postpartum Doula work. Paula’s intense natural ability to connect with people in a loving and compassionate way makes her a caring and knowledgable family support person. If she is not with people, Paula is loving the outdoors! This love led her to starting her own gardening business, “Grubby Girl in the Garden”. If she has a spare moment she and her husband of 32 years yearn to travel, hike, bike, camp, kayak, practice yoga and read in their hammocks near the water.
