Meet Your ProDoula
Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I spent 4 years in the hospital setting as a Registered Nurse on the Mother & Baby Unit, and a few years prior to that working as a birth assistant for an out-of-hospital birth center. Additionally, I am an IBCLC and offer in-home lactation consultation.
What led you to become a Doula?: When I was working on pre-requisites for nursing school I was encouraged to watch a documentary on the way our society views birth. It ignited a fire in my soul that influences everything that I do. After having children of my own my focus narrowed to the postpartum period as I saw the need for quality care and support. People are expected to birth their baby and "bounce back" into the same life... It has become my goal to honor the postpartum period and to spread awareness about the importance of mental health following childbirth.
