Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: Licensed Birth Photographer and Videographer of nearly 4 years. Mother of 4
What led you to become a Doula?: As a creator, I know how a powerful image can move you. How it can change you. I wanted to capture those images, and nothing communicates power like a mother giving birth. I was continuously amazed by the strength and sacrifice of mother after mother who literally spilled her blood to bring her child into the world. I continued in amazement, and began to learn a few things along the way. I found myself wishing I could reach out and physically assist my clients to help lift their burden with things that I had noticed during my time as a birth photographer. When the Pandemic hit and I was no longer allowed at births in hospitals, I began to seriously consider becoming a doula until, finally, with encouragement from friends and family, I signed up!
What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:
“Sue was able to capture my son Elliot’s birth and I cannot say enough good things about having her there! I chose to do the birth unmedicated and knowing that Sue had experienced unmedicated births with her children served as the perfect visual reminder during the process. Plus the images she captured of my husband and I during labor as well as Elliot’s first few hours of life are some of the most precious photos I have possession of. Looking at the pictures from that day transports me back to one of the best days of my whole life. If you have the opportunity to have Sue take your birth story photos, you will absolutely not regret it!”
