Meet Your ProDoula

Background/Experience that you think is beneficial to Doula work: I have worked in the medical arena for the greater part of my life. Unbeknownst to myself, I worked as a doula long before realizing that there was a title for what I was doing. I have experience with the following: Medicated Birth, Unmedicated Birth, Cesarean Birth, Infant Loss, VBAC, Twin Pregnancy and Birth, High-Risk Pregnancy, Advanced Maternal Age Pregnancy, Preterm Birth

What led you to become a Doula?: Initially, what led me to become interested in birth work was the desire to support women during their birth experience. However, after my first couple of birth experiences, I realized that there was much more of a need for doulas than learning terms, pain relief techniques, and showing up for a birth. What I began to understand was that as a whole, there is a need for doulas far beyond that realm. I realized that there were real issues in the birth community, such as birth disparities and threatened maternal outcomes that needed to be addressed and remedied. I decided at that point that not only did I want to walk with birthing people through their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, but I also wanted to make sure that my presence in the birth community was making a difference to change birth outcomes and that birthing people were empowered to use their voices to ensure that they received the care and experience the birth that they wanted and deserved.

What are some positive comments made about you by other people?:

Positive comments made about me by others have been that I’m compassionate, personable, knowledgeable, and passionate about what is important to me. Others have said that I am humorous, genuine, intuitive, proactive, and that I don’t meet a stranger.
